Facial artery

What it is
From the external carotid, curling around the inferior border of the mandible at the antegonial notch just anterior to the masseter, then running tortuously upward and forward past the corner of the mouth, along the nasolabial fold to the alar base, where it continues as the angular artery to the medial canthus. In a 60-cadaver study the crossing lay 3.3 cm from the gonion and 7.1 cm from the pogonion, about 32 per cent of the way along the border, a proportion independent of jaw size. Its depth relative to the mimetic muscles varies by region and by person.
How the Codex reads it
Why Link is blunt, slow and superficial along the border, and why Install stays on bone: the artery crosses exactly where a jawline is drawn. The course here is a schematic path through measured waypoints, not an angiogram.

Every number in this atlas cites the study it came from. The full method, including what this site withholds on purpose, is on sources and method.
This site teaches one level above the Codex's working manual: the architecture is public, the coordinates are not. This page withholds entry points, landmark constructions, volumes and read-to-point routing, exactly as the atlas does. What is shown and what is withheld.
